Types of Braces

Metal Braces

Metal high-grade steel braces are the most common type of braces used today. Our office uses the latest in Orthodontic technology with what is known as "self-ligating brackets". These braces are smaller and more aesthetic. Rather than the color ties generally used in traditional metal braces, the brackets contain a small metal door with a sliding mechanism that holds the arch wire in place. This reduces the amount of pressure placed on the teeth during treatment, creating a gentler experience for our patients. Color ties are still made available to our patients that would like them.

Clear Braces

Ceramic braces are made of translucent (clear) material. They are most popular with adult patients, due to their cosmetic appeal. The only drawbacks to ceramic brackets are that they are slightly more fragile, and the elastic ties can discolor between orthodontic visits.

The Invisalign System is a series of clear overlay templates—called aligners—(similar in appearance to clear retainers) that have been generated by a sophisticated computer simulation to gradually move the teeth. They are removable, allowing the patient to eat or drink as they would like. This system is available to adult patients with certain orthodontic bite problems. Ask us if you are a candidate for the Invisalign system.

Invisalign® Teen

Invisalign Teen aligners are removable and virtually invisible, which means teens can straighten their teeth without anyone knowing. You can still eat and drink what you want. Also, you can brush and floss normally to maintain healthy gums and teeth, and there are no wires, metal or brackets to cause mouth abrasions.
